Sometimes there is evidence of the presence of animals (traces left behind, camera traps) that once lived in our country, and today are rare visitors.
The lynx is also a rare visitor to Hungary, which is largely due to human intervention. The use, transformation, and destruction of the environment for its own purposes has resulted in the escape of many native animals, which has depleted their stock, and has drifted to the edge of extinction. This is not only a problem in our country, but also in Europe and worldwide.
The lynx almost disappeared from the territory of Hungary already during the First World War. Later, the presence of the animals was detected and the camera traps were used by specialists to suggest that some specimens were living in our country.
The Eurasian lynx finds refuge in the mountains of northern Hungary. The Börzsöny New Year's Eve Botond lived in Börzsöny. Although known for its presence, it hides itself relatively well in the woods. The area could be home to more than one lynx, and we hope that this will happen.
