Fish living in aquariums are popular pets, as they are quiet, and the beautifully decorated aquatic community can be an ornament of the home.
And if we’re novice aquarists - but this may be true for even the more experienced ones - that guppy is a popular fish species. Guppies are easy to keep, it is easy to differentiate between females and males. The color of the male guppies can be quite varied, and their fan-like tails make the small fish even more spectacular.
The guppy is actually a tropical fish species whose main enemy in the wild waters is the perch. Among the free-living guppies, the researchers observed a rather strange thing. While most fish species, thanks to their vision, recognize the enemy and fly away from the danger zone, others are seemingly dangerous in color in the hope that the predators will not even approach them because of this. In contrast, the guppies are neither overly colorful nor escaping. On the contrary, they swim ever closer to the enemy. when these little fish do this, their iris turns black, which also attracts the attacker's gaze and mesmerizes the bull like the flag waved by the matador. When he has mesmerized the predator enough with the guppy’s eyes, he escapes unexpectedly and very quickly.
