Not just cats and dogs exist as pets. Axolotl is not a very common favorite, but it is captivating.
The appearance of the Mexican axolotl newt is at least as special as its name. According to the name associated with Aztec mythology, it means water dog, as it embodies the dog-shaped god of death and rebirth.
The Mexican prefix also indicates that axolotl is from Mexico. Under natural conditions, a brownish, grayish animal often still appears white. Its uniqueness is given by the gills that still exist in adulthood. Few know that this amphibian can even switch to breathing exclusively with the lungs if the water in its natural medium ceases.
