The dog with which his master deals a lot or has learned a lot in school behaves differently when he hears the command words.
The command words can be taught at home by the owner as well, as they are smart, learning animals. Just saying the word is already doing what the host expects of him. That's what they associate with it.
Maybe everybody has seen a dog that immediately spoke his ear when he spoke the word "cat", looking around with desperate eyes where the kitten was. Not only can the cat react to the cat, but essentially anything. "Where's the ball?" he can also immediately pound the dog to find the ball. But the only dog that will react to this is who knows what to imagine.
The owner believes in his dog's abilities, and since the animal responds to a word as expected from him, he tends to assume that the dog understands human speech. In fact, our pets are able to follow our instructions, do what we say to them, but not only to our words, but also to others.
In fact, dogs pay more attention to foreign words, this is not the case with humans. Our brain is more concerned with the already known terms.
