How many dogs, so many characters and personalities. Many of them require caress, bodily contact, and others do well with less touch.
As a dog owner we can get to know the nature of the animal. If there were more dogs, we could see how the current dog behaves differently from the previous ones.
How your dog treats us and others (human or other animal) depends on how we socialize what we are used to living in our environment. If you were a puppy puppy in our lap, you can grow to need this proximity and care. No problem when it comes to small puppies, but for a Danish dog, a German Shepherd dog or a large dog, it might be more inconvenient for you to want to slip into your lap.
As a host, you may also have noticed that your pet was sitting so close to you that you could find him on your feet. That is, it sat on your feet. He doesn't want to keep his butt warm this way, but he wants your closeness. This is usually the case, but you might just want to point out that you belong, own it.
