The Christmas tree may be in place, the dogs might have gotten used to their presence, but will the dog stay at home?
Officially, pyrotechnics could be used on the last day of the year, but you can hear pops every year even before the New Year and after that.
Not everyone likes loud bangs, and this is more true of our very hearing pets.
Kittens hide cleverly and it is easier for dogs in the house to feel safe, but more dogs show signs of stress when firecrackers pop. And dogs kept in the open can scare away so far that they may or may not get away. Binding on a chain is basically not an option, but it is not the case during New Year's firecrackers, as a dog trying to escape can tear it apart and injure itself. That is why these days, even puppies should be allowed in an indoor and lockable room from where they can't even escape.
Daily walks are worth doing early in the morning and before dusk. The dog chip may give you some security. In the event of a disappearance, the chances of the dog returning home are greater.
