Animals that did not even exist in the wild arrived at the Debrecen Zoo.
Zoos are home to a number of animal species that are no longer found in their natural habitat. The swordfish antelope also falls into this category. Unfortunately, there are no more of them in the wilderness, but now Debrecen has the opportunity to present the world with new specimens within the framework of the European Species Conservation Breeding Program.
Mother and daughter came to the zoo in hopes of further expanding the zoo's swordfish antelope population.
The Hajdu-Bihar County institution has been dealing with this species for the first time in Hungary since 2009. Today, the number of these antelopes has increased in other institutions of the world, and it is hoped that Debrecen will continue to add to this number.
