The number of victims increased to 22

When we talk about the extinction of elephants, perhaps the first thing that comes to poaching is the mindlessly killed animals for their fangs.

This was not the case this time. Apparently the animals were not killed by poachers as their fangs were intact, however, 12 young elephants were still killed. As it turned out, this time the culprit was a poisonous plant that, after consuming it, had a bacterial infection with the snouts. This is just a big enough loss for Zimbabwe, and ten more dead animals have now been found. It is likely that these elephants have also fallen victim to the poisonous plant, but the case is still under investigation.

Young elephants do not yet reach the canopy of trees. They are much harder to find food in the dry season, so they also consume easily accessible but poisonous plants. It is even clearer that the dead animals could have been killed by the plant because each was a young individual.
