Human activity, deliberate habitat reduction, and poaching have put many species of animals in a difficult situation, while others have fared worse and have since died.

Rhinoceroses are also among the species threatened with extinction. The danger of extinction of the wide-mouthed rhinoceros has long been hovering over the species as the sword of Damocles, for poachers can do anything about it.

For a species that is in serious danger of extinction by natural or artificial means, but by its offspring, it is always a pleasure. It was for this very reason that America was very happy when hope was born.

The San Diego Zoo is proud to have their artificially fertilized female give birth to a healthy calf. Moreover, the newly born rhinoceros calf is the second born by artificial insemination.

The sperm cells are from the male rhinoceros, which died in 2018. Frozen sperm have already produced two healthy specimens, and professionals are hoping for more calves.
