Thirty zoo residents were killed in a fire caused by an airlifted wishlamp in Germany.
Most of the non-human primates did not survive the fire. Only two chimpanzees survived. But they were fortunate enough to escape the tragedy, with only minor injuries.
Although not physically injured, they were spiritually greatly affected by the fire.
Female and male chimpanzees are getting better. Not only are their wounds healing nicely, but they are becoming more self-confident, which is a very good sign.
They cannot go back to their burnt-out area, so they have been set apart within the gorillas until they find a new zoo where they can live with other chimps.
