Climate change was triggered and accelerated by human activity, but almost all animal species besides humans feel it.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for dolphins and whales to drift ashore and meet their fate in their helplessness. In many cases, climate change is said to be the root cause of the phenomenon.
Research has shown that the leaders of the animals that washed ashore showed signs of dementia and that is probably why they led their companions into too shallow waters, which meant their destruction. In other words, they produced signs similar to those seen in Alzheimer's disease. At the same time, the kind of brain changes that can be detected in humans in the case of Alzheimer's disease were not found in cetaceans.
The fact that signs of dementia, i.e. dumbing down, can be observed in the case of dolphins and whales is possible because they can live for years even after their ability to reproduce has ceased. One thing is certain, all this phenomenon needs to be investigated in order to find out more.
