While the happiest thing in the zoos is the arrival and birth of a new specimen, the saddest thing is the destruction.
The New York Zoo has been experiencing a recent decline in herds. Batu, the young elephant, had been ill for days, but every single day he lived gave him hope that he might recover. Unfortunately, he perished and a few days later his brother, Ajay, also followed.
The so-called EEHV, a type of herpes virus, caused the death of both animals.
A more unfortunate year-end is hard to bear after such a rough year.
