The massive drought experienced in our country this summer suggests that life is even more difficult for wildlife.
Especially those species whose lifestyles are highly dependent on water may be at risk and may feel the least comfortable. The long-legged stork has also adapted its body structure to the aquatic lifestyle. Consequently, we could think that this summer was not favorable for them either in terms of finding food or starting a family.
However, the Hungarian Ornithological Association claims otherwise. According to their survey, despite the drought, the number of hatchlings was higher than in the last thirty years.
From the increased number of hatchlings, it can be concluded that the storks were able to adapt to this situation due to lack of rain here or there. And although it is a wading bird, it mostly feeds on insects during the breeding season.
