The sight of migrating cranes is fascinating and although our country is a popular route for these birds, the capital and its surroundings are not the place where these birds would appear.
Undoubtedly, they prefer the large lakes found in the Great Plains, but now the population of cranes is so large that they have expanded their territory to other regions of Hungary. The number of cranes, which decreased in the second half of the last century, has now finally increased, and it is also thanks to this that they have recently been roosting here as well and not just passing over us.
More than 150,000 cranes fly over our small country, and all this is thanks to the selfless work they do to protect nature conservation areas.
The Alföld is still the preferred stop for the largest number, but during the procession they even stop in Budapest for a little sightseeing.
