The fact that plastic waste produced by humans covers the waters of the seas is not new. There is plastic that is barely visible, but is still present.
Microplastics and larger plastic particles take a long time to break down. This means that if it gets into the water, it will pollute it for a long time. An even bigger problem is that it also enters the body of animals during feeding.
According to recent research, it has also been found that it causes so-called plasticosis when it enters the body of seabirds. In other words, the plastic causes such damage to the birds' digestive system that scars remain after they heal.
This was confirmed not only in the case of adult birds, but also in chicks. This means that when adult animals collect food, they introduce plastic into the body of the young, and the wounds and then the scars appear.
